Post-Conference Tour | Hunter Valley
TOUR HV | HUNTER VALLEY & AUSTRALIA'S HORSE CAPITAL
09-10 FEBRUARY (SATURDAY & SUNDAY)
The Hunter Valley is one of Australia's top tourist destinations, famous for both world class wines and the best equines in the Southern Hemisphere. The rural heritage town of Scone is globally renowned as "Australia's Horse Capital", home to the majority of the leading Thoroughbred studs and one of the largest Arabian breeding herds on the continent, as well as being the heart of Australian Stockhorse country, a breed whose origins trace directly to a significant infusion of Arabian blood. The Hunter Valley wine region is the oldest in Australasia, attracting more tourists each year than South Australia's Barossa Valley & McClaren Vale, and Western Australia's Margaret River Region.
The Hunter Valley & Australia's Horse Capital Post-Conference Tour has been carefully crafted to provide international guests with the best of both world-class equines & local culinary delights, with a heaping dose of authentic Aussie hospitality. Scheduled for two fun-filled days (Saturday the 9th & Sunday the 10th) immediately after the WAHO General Sessions, the Hunter Valley & Australia's Horse Capital Post-Conference Tour is a 'must-do/must-see' experience just a short coach ride away from the Central Coast.
Following the festivities of Friday night’s Gala Dinner, coach transport will be provided mid-morning on Saturday 9th February from the Crowne Plaza Terrigal Pacific for the first stop on the Hunter Valley Tour: Jenni & Paul Ogden’s Eagleridge Arabians Farm. A globally recognised source of world-class Arabian show horses & breeding stock, Eagleridge will not only showcase their own breeding programme but host several other local breeders, including Diamond Road Arabian Stud & Myth Haven Arabian Farm, for an engaging afternoon presentation.
Following a relaxing lunch and fellowship, the coach will depart for the heart of the Hunter Valley to the largest of all the Mulawa operations: Alabama & Cronk Coar Studs, sister properties situated in Segenhoe NSW. Here guests will meet the Mulawa breeding stallions, discover the expansive broodmare band representing an impressive 14 dam families, and get up close and personal with the youngest of the foals from the most recent season. The day will finish with a relaxing evening BBQ near the paddocks of Mulawa supersires KLASS & ALLEGIANCE MI, before departing for an overnight stay in nearby Denman.
Local equine tour expert Craig Benjamin, who will join the tour on Saturday afternoon, will be our guide for intimate 'behind-the-scenes' experiences at two of the most prominent Thoroughbred studs in the area, home to legendary athletes & celebrated breeding horses. The morning kicks off with a special visit to the incredible Widden Stud, an iconic Aussie stud farm owned & operated by the Thompson Family for over 150 years. Lunch & wine tasting at Hollydene Estate in nearby Jerrys Plains will set the stage for a spectacular afternoon, as the vineyard’s hillside location overlooks the well groomed paddocks of Coolmore Australia, a division of the world’s largest Thoroughbred breeding operation. A stud tour at Coolmore will immediately follow, an experience that will be long remembered as a highlight in this extraordinarily impressive equine hotspot.
The coach will depart for Sydney late in the afternoon with a dinner stop along the route at the charming Wyong Milk Factory, a inspiringly renovated dairy farm that features two dining options: at the cosy Café, or for the full farm experience, at The Rusty Udder Tavern. Evening return will be provided to the Mantra Sydney Airport hotel, for an overnight stay before your departure home, or to Victoria or Queensland for continued post-conference tour enjoyment. The hotel is a convenient shuttle ride away to your flight departures on Monday morning.
