Thank You from WAHO President Peter Pond
8th March 2019
I am writing on behalf of all of the WAHO family to extend our sincere thanks for the organization of the WAHO 2019 Australian Conference in Terrigal, NSW. This was the third WAHO Conference organized by the Arabian Horse Society of Australia , the others being held in the years 1984 and 2000.
We all appreciate that an enormous amount of thought, planning and hard work goes into organizing and running a WAHO Conference over a long period of time. So thank you to you Leonie , all of the other Board Members and also to those on the Event Organizing Committee, especially Scott Benjamin, Kristin Galea, Helen Dohan and Teresa Edwards who worked so hard for so long. We also extend our thanks to Ian, Deb and Kelly Watson, Bryan Geoghehan, Lindy Stewart and Glenys Lilley and everyone who was involved from AHSA, both its staff and its membership.
We were all extremely happy with the Conference and the Crowne Plaza, Terrigal from all accounts was a great success as the venue hotel. We were very impressed by all the hotel staff, from the conference side to the reception side, who really did go the extra mile on several occasions to ensure everything ran smoothly for all the guests.
We all also appreciated the excellent gift packages including the “Hats” which were such a great idea and absolutely ideal, uniquely Aussie and much admired. The Executive Committee I know also appreciated receiving as your gift the AHSA’s new superb book “Hoofprints in History”
The WAHO Registrars Meeting and the General Assembly Meeting were both a great success, we were able to complete many important business items of importance to WAHO.
Of equal significance, the hands of friendship were once again extended between our members from so many diverse countries and cultures.
All members of WAHO share a passion for the Arabian horse, so the chance to see so many outstanding Australian Arabian horses at the Australian Arabian Ambassadors Presentation and the Arabian Stud Farm visits to the Simeon Stud of Marion Richmond and the Mulawa Arabian Stud of Greg, Julie and Jane Farrell have left us with the very best possible impression of the Arabian Horse in Australia and have also given us the most wonderful memories of our time in Australia. As horse owners and breeders ourselves, we also understand just how difficult it is to organize a presentation like this.
Special mention must go to the excellent commentary at these events which gave us a window into the history and traditions of the Australian Arabian horses. These events were expertly supported by the various talks at the Conference on the History of the Arabian Horse in Australia with the title “ From the Desert to the Lands Down Under” given by Coralie Gordon, Allan Preston and David Gillett.
The specially arranged social events during the Conference week were also very much appreciated and enjoyed. Please extend our thanks once again to Carol Heuchan for entertaining us with her wonderful poems at the Welcome Reception, and to Marian Duncan for designing the beautiful Conference logo. I should also mention that all the stud visits and horse presentations so generously organized by so many AHSA members as part of the Post-Conference tours to Queensland and Victoria proved to be the ideal showcases of the excellence of both Arabians and their derivatives throughout Australia. I know that the Post Conference tours were also a great success and enjoyed by all of those who participated.
We have truly appreciated the incomparable hospitality which we all received during our stay in Australia. We feel sure that the conference reports, when published, will reflect this and will provide excellent positive publicity for the Arabian breeders and owners of Australia.
With our sincere thanks once again for arranging this third WAHO Conference and with every good wish for a continuing bright future for AHSA.
Peter Pond, President, WAHO
